DREW. COMING HOME.
This past Memorial Day weekend I was given the honor of covering a US Marine coming home to his family. This was truly an amazing, humbling and touching experience for all involved and for me to witness first hand. Casey has been waiting for her fiancĂ© Drew to come home while he has been serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan for the past eight months. As we all waited several hours for his company to arrive on base, the anticipation for Casey, her family and Drew’s family was unbearable. For all of them, months turned to hours, hours turned to minutes and minutes turned to seconds in those final moments as we watched the processional make it’s way onto base. Once the buses were all accounted for, it was a mad dash for Casey to find her Drew amongst the rest of his company and hold him for the first time in eight months.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for those who serve our country and I want to thank Casey, Drew and their families for inviting me to capture this joyous sigh of relief and emotional reunion as they welcomed home their soldier during this important weekend of honoring the fallen. A big thank you to all of you who serve our country on our behalf.
